The Ex Plasmon - Via Cadolini project represents a significant urban regeneration effort, transforming a disused area into a new multifunctional public space, incorporating residences, offices, and a hotel. The intervention is centered around a pedestrian and cycle-friendly promenade that crosses the area from Via Cadolini to Via Tacito, serving as a key connection between the urban fabric and the newly designed public spaces. The promenade leads to "Piazza Plada," a 4,500 sqm tree-lined square with permeable calcestre surfaces, designed as a shaded gathering space and the focal point of the project.
The area is enriched with a variety of permeable green spaces, rain gardens, and gardens characterized by gentle earth movements and a naturalistic design, offering users a varied experience while improving the urban microclimate. The integration of local vegetation, pollinator-friendly plants, and tall trees, combined with a focus on biodiversity and low-maintenance landscaping, enhances the site’s sustainability and ecological value.
Both private and public gardens, including the railway garden and residential green areas, are designed to accommodate diverse functions such as relaxation, play, inclusivity, and social interaction. The residential gardens feature accessible play areas, sculpted landforms for privacy, and green planters hosting varied tree species. Meanwhile, the railway garden, with its rain gardens and trees of different heights, serves as an ecological and acoustic buffer. This intervention, which harmonizes architecture and landscape, adheres to principles of sustainability, regeneration, and quality of urban life. It proposes functional, inclusive spaces in dialogue with the surrounding context, enhancing the connection between architecture, landscape, and community well-being.
