The main objective of our proposal is to take up the challenge of urban regeneration by creating a place that truly has the potential to become a place of urban identity. A new, modern, multifunctional centre - with workspaces flanked by entertainment, F&B and  hopping facilities - which will be developed in synergy with the Hanza Perons spaces.
This osmotic relationship will be the real key that will foster the value of the entire future area to be  regenerated: Hanza Gate will be its main entrance, considering the flows from the city centre, and the focus will be on its attractiveness and welcoming capacity as a new vibrant city hub.
Hanza Gate will be developed, as required by the brief, in two separate buildings:
HA16A on Hanzas Street 16th and PB28A on Pulkveža Brieža Street 28th. Both will house flexible and modern offices, while the entire ground floor will therefore be a large permeable level, with attractive services for the city community, users of the adjacent Hanza Perons and office occupants. At the junction of Hanzas Street and Pulkveža Brieža Street is the main entrance, connected to the entertainment functions of Hanza Perons. The focus of the flows towards the office buildings is on Pulkveža Brieža Street, at the two opposing façades of the buildings. The final part of the lot, at the junction with Marta Stanas iela, houses a walkway of shops, boutiques and office support activities.
Considering the volumes and shape of the buildings, we aimed for a solution in harmony with the adjacent Hanza Perons. The profile of HA16A, which tapers upwards and is inspired by the outline of some of the typical architecture of the historic city, visually lightens the volume, which is not invasive. The front on Hanza Street recedes to free up space, creating a common space that welcomes the flows from the city centre and facilitates the entrance to Hanza Perons. Finally, the opposing fronts of HA16A and PB28A at the centre of the lot bend to shape the offices’ entrance space and visually facilitate the flows.
The work on the façades was done with great focus on the regular prefabricated module, to ensure an easy assembly and disassembly. Functionality is not at the detriment of architectural quality: The façade cladding panel is made of ceramics with a color inspired by amber and a reflective quality that allows the building to change color depending on how it is struck by sunlight.
