The design choices adopted in the landscape project proposal are aimed at achieving important objectives:
- Reducing paved surfaces and solar exposure to effectively manage the heat island effect, thereby creating a more comfortable microclimate for both residents and wildlife.
- Introducing the rain garden as a vital landscape element within the ecozone. This feature will interact harmoniously with both the surrounding landscape and architecture, while also providing significant ecological benefits, such as improved water management and biodiversity
enhancement.
- Minimizing water usage for plant care by carefully selecting species that require low water and maintenance. This approach not only conserves resources but also ensures the sustainability of the landscape.
- Ensuring total accessibility to the elevated square by adhering to the principles of “design for all.” This commitment will make the space welcoming and usable for everyone, regardless of mobility challenges.
- Transforming the passage between the city and the port into a vibrant “vegetal welcome.” This will feature a “community garden” that incorporates both native and non-native plants, creating a large “global garden” where diverse plant interactions foster new ecological synergies
and community connections.
- Designating the square as a central gathering space for meetings, activities, and relaxation. This will be nestled within a large garden of flowering trees, creating a Blooming Public Realm that serves as a green landmark on an urban scale, inviting people to come together and enjoy
nature.
