The project proposal for the redevelopment of the building in Via delle Orsole is oriented to the realization of a good volumetric clarity in consideration of the monument of building surface. The existing building is located in an area of central Milan particularly influenced by the changes and stratification of historical interventions.
This mode of growth, typical of Milan, is particularly visible here. The construction of such a complex space, in which the relationship between additions and stratifications determines relationships of proximity and dialogues between forms and architectural language, requires a reading of the articulated urban fabric.
The urban landscape that has been established in the urban area of the project, with a trapezoidal shape, expresses a continuous planimetric and volumetric mending even in the sediments of the buildings.
The existing building designed by the architect Cassi Ramelli interprets with a volumetric articulation the different tensions between the level of the street and the vertical development of the buildings, between the level of the public floor and levels that do not have a great relationship within such a dense fabric with plan of the collective space, but with the masses built around. The new voids, trace the relationship spaces between the size of the masses and the urban fabric.
The building is located in a margin where the city was changing and is changing further. A margin between the "institutional" part of the public city and the city of the historical residence, the city built on the Roman city, along a historical path, but made of "usual" buildings, almost modest, very different, as architectural language from the city that it was built at the end of the nineteenth century.
There reconstruction after the second world war has further accentuated this aspect, placing this building right in a point of change highlighted also by the incompleteness of Vicolo Santa Maria alla Porta.
