Belgorod Urban Design

Urban density target is the main item of each city which is going to grow up. How much and how? We have adopted in the project the typical top medium density of the mains European city (70 people/ha, 140/ha in the district) and less or more, at the end,  the double of cubic metric of buildings, after demolishing . It does mean that we will build aproximately new 150.000 m3 in the district, shared in dense mixed use of activities (residential, office, shop & retail, school), Public Library, urban farm, in this way we give also a model of balanced urban growing. Belgorod with less cars, more interaction with the people, and more communication. One important target is to keep the same built footprint as now to reduce the future land use, as we did. To allow the public use of the landscape, we have created masses of available public spaces instead of a sprawling of small landscaped separated rooms.
Following this way, we have focused our attention on the heritage buildings as signs of the local culture as one of the “magnets”. So we have create a space, facing south, to focus this important building in the new landscaped wide garden, which ends in the Public Library.
The new Public Realm is the intersection of human relationships in the urban space. More urban intersections means also more possibilities of  a social and vibrant community. The new pedestrian street will design a completely new urban space. Open spaces, covered passages, green and accessible spaces, are the core of the project. Comfortable outside spaces with sun access are merged with low energy buildings in a contemporary architectural design.
