The new entryway, with its transparency, maintains a dialogue with the context of the existing architecture. The design outlines of the existing building inspires this simple addendum, the scale of the Ukraina Hotel leads the proportions and dimensions. Reduction and quality of design, integration without mimicry, so we see this entryway, which uses technology to achieve the functionality and the form to confirm the relationship with architecture heritage.
The materials used are mirrored steel and e-glass (a special transparent glass heated by a electrical connection on the edge of the glass panels). The shape and the height of the glazed roof permits to cover all the surface of the entryway included the recessed entrance doors to the building. The drainage of the meteoric water is assured by the net of heated channels, hidden inside the beams, placed under and between the glass fields. Water and snow drainage channels lead to the vertical heated drain pipes at the core of the star shaped columns.
The new entryway is a shelter but also the visible door trough the history of one of the most known architecture of the soviet union era. It is an in-between space, a translator of space from the contemporary architecture of Moscow and the heritage architecture.
