The project responds to the changing needs and historical layers. The current fragmentation of the space is also expressed by the stratification of the use of the square in time. From "shared space" in the nineteenth century in which people and vehicles mixing on a large parterre, to a pedestrian square functionally oriented and finally to a car space in the nineties. These changes have never been integrated to give a qualitative urban design. The places remain at the bordes: Largo Ghiringhelli as a place of belonging Site Scala Largo Mattioli as link between San Fedele and Piazza Meda, Piazza Paolo Ferrari-Street Amateur Dramatics/Theatre now are social spaces integrated in the urban design not only passages.
The pedestrian crossings are made with the widening of the pavement to improve the visibility of pedestrians.
The spaces and the paths are organized so the use of these are safer and more recognizable in the urban system.
The project strategies are summarized in the following actions: to strengthen, rebuild, reduce, enhance, balance, expand, organize, sort, integrate, unify and engage
