The Design development of the New Nursery and Crèche in Lavis was born from the re-development of the existing building plan with new and high standards of energy efficiency goals and strategies. The project proposes technical and architectural solutions to make interior spaces more articulated in terms of heights and therefore more exiting for children. The simple horizontal scrolling of the volumes breaks down the façade continuity of attached two blocks Nursery and Crèche and introduces a variant of local evocative architecture of Lavis. The fragmentation of the façades of the external volumes and the apparent trend of discontinuity of the roof, give the impression as it is built as a building cluster composed of different urban pieces, like an urban environment, a part of the city, of the village, of the daily local life of children, with a strong relationship with the surrounding environment. The silhouette of the building volumes looks like the model home, which in the children's imagination and drawings means a safe, warm, comfortable & happy place. The school of Lavis is going to be the first LEED Platinum certified school building in Italy which makes it a model for the future projects, we have integrated the requirements of the verification system 2009 Italy LEED NC (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) and some indications of the LEED for School. At the same time the project uses the ''local'' natural & renewable resources, materials and economy. The analysis made on the urban context, environment and climate have produced a building with strong visual permeability, high comfort conditions and energy efficiency and lower environmental impact. As the main goal was designing a fusion between the external and internal activities, the work was mainly concentrated on the external perimeter and the building envelope for creating an optimum and continuous relationship with the sun, surrounding landscape with mountains and valley.
