The construction of the new Central Storage IKEA Italia S.p.A.  within the Logistics Pole in Piacenza has developed in two stages between 1997 and 2002. The building designed in 1997 is drawn to optimize the interior for the shelving and material handling. The precast concrete structure defines a simple and compact volume that seeks mediation with its surroundings with the control of the visual impact with a simple and purposely minimal design. The research carried out to define the best compromise between variability construction and architectural wealth has resulted in the adoption of a more detailed drawing of the facade leaving to the volume the expressive and communicative potentiality.
The incisions in the texture defined by vertical walls and the dimensional control of the intervention scale give the whole controlled architectural quality.
The new requirements have directed the project toward the exploitation of the entire available area for cargo storage business with the expansion of offices areas and optimization of parking and moving vehicles surfaces. The extension is characterized by types of storage similar to the previous building with an increase of the height and greater variability of the volumes. The building is constructed with dry technology for almost the whole surface.
